On February 4th, China and Russia issued a ‘Joint Statement on the International Relations Entering a New Era and the Global Sustainable Development’ highlighting many common points of interest on the international stage. Among them, was ‘abandoning the cold war mentality, as China joined Russia to ‘oppose further enlargement of NATO and call on the North Atlantic Alliance to abandon its ideologized cold war approaches’. The document also promised a ‘no limits friendship’ between the two countries, ‘superior to the political and military alliances of the Cold War era’.
