Database: Candidates for the elections in Romania, 2004-2020

EFOR released the only database with all the candidates for the Romanian elections. The database is part of the BaniPartide platform and includes candidates from 2004 to 2020 who participated in local, parliamentary, presidential and European parliamentary elections. By-elections are not included. The platform is developed for journalists, investigators or any other person interested in data related to the political profile of candidates and elections.

The source of the data is diverse and includes: web pages of the Central Electoral Bureaus (BEC), information obtained through FOIA from the Permanent Electoral Authority and lists of candidates published by the media. Given that not all BEC web pages are accessible anymore, we also used Web Archive tools to access data. In the case of the 2008 local elections, the data is partial.

This database is implemented within the “Effective Combat Against Corruption” (ECAC) project, implemented with the support of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) in partnership with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the CEELI Institute (Central and Eastern European Law Initiative).
