The Launch of the Play (Dis)connected! – Disinformation and Social Polarization

In contemporary society, polarization within families and interpersonal relationships is often fueled by the ways we engage with social media and disinformation. This pressing reality is explored in the new play (De)conectat, written and directed by Ozana Nicolau, as part of a project co-financed by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund and produced by the Art Revolution Association.

Expert Forum (EFOR) contributed to this production through research and analysis of the phenomenon of disinformation, carried out in collaboration with high school students and young adults. The activities included interactive workshops that explored the perceptions and effects of disinformation among younger generations. Mădălina Voinea, representing EFOR, coordinated these workshops, bringing a deep understanding of the impact of fake news and social media on social and civic behavior.

The play (De)conectat is structured in a dynamic and lively manner, alternating between scenes of everyday life, debates, and online interactions that reflect current and real-life situations. The four central scenes – “The Social Media Laboratory,” “Crișan and Mimișor, Charismatic Political Leaders,” “Teenagers in the Park,” and “Let’s Stick Together Like Brothers” – subtly reveal how patriotic ideas can mask xenophobia, misogyny, and how the distortion of truth can lead to intolerance and division.

We invite everyone interested to watch the play and stay connected with the upcoming events and activities hosted by Art Revolution and Teatrul Masca, with performances scheduled on November 1st and 3rd. This play is an invitation to dialogue and reflection, addressing current social and political themes with humor, irony, and sincerity.

EFOR’s activities in the region, including efforts to address disinformation and threats to democracy, are also supported by funding from the National Endowment for Democracy.
