Two-a-penny: 5 million euro per year for the Hungarian language media trust in Transylvania

Record breaking funding from Budapest: an obscure local association received 20 million euro over a few years to consolidate in a holding most of the Hungarian-language media and online operations. It is all part of a long-term plan to monopolize and clientelize the space for public debate in Transylvania by FIDESZ and UDMR (the ethnic Hungarian party). Together with our partners from Átlátszó Erdély, we will monitor the online conversation to identify the main narratives and influencers in the political campaign about to begin in Hungary: there will be parliamentary elections next spring.
