The European Platform for Democratic Elections (EPDE) and Expert Forum (EFOR) are pleased to invite you to our first briefing in a two-part series on the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections in Romania, taking place over three consecutive weekends between November 24 and December 8, 2024.
During this intense electoral period, Romanian voters will head to the polls for a record four national and local elections within a single year, as well as a referendum in Bucharest.
Expert Forum (EFOR) has been closely monitoring the electoral process and will share critical insights on key issues shaping the elections, including election overlapping and campaign dynamics, the influence of public financing, and challenges to media independence. Romania now ranks among EU countries with the highest state subsidies for political parties, much of which flows into intransparent media contracts, further weakening an already fragile media landscape.
