FIDESZ-ization at breakneck speed in Romania

The danger is visible that the new Prime Minister, Victor Ponta, may step in the footprints of his Hungarian counterpart, Viktor Orban, by purging the administration and the public media of independent professionals and critical voices, and engineering a super-majority in the next Parliament.
We are very concerned because the new Cabinet has managed to achieve the following, in just one week:
– to adopt a new electoral system that favors the current ruling majority and creates super-majorities (45-50% electoral support translates into 65-70% parliamentary seats)
– prefects and sub-prefects, “non-political appointees”, were again replaced expeditiously
– uncomfortable journalists from the public TV and radio were instructed “to take a break until after the elections”
